JobsForAstronomers: What is your current job?
Sebastian: Civil servant at Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research

JobsForAstronomers: What is your level of satisfaction with your current job?
Sebastian: Very high! The job boasts: A wide range of duties and fields to work on due to an internal job rotation system; very high job security at a very reasonable salary. My first position was in the supervision and funding of federally funded research institutions. This included sitting on boards of governors or advising superiors on such boards, in some cases in an international context.

JobsForAstronomers: What qualifications were necessary for obtaining this position?
Sebastian: As a formal qualification, I needed a university degree in a natural science and two years of job experience at a comparable level. In my case my work as a postdoctoral research associate was appropriate.

JobsForAstronomers: What additional training did you complete in order to be able to perform your duties?
Sebastian: Several internal training courses, and a lot of on-the-job training.

JobsForAstronomers: What was your last academic position before switching fields of work (i.e. PhD student, first/second post-doc etc)?
Sebastian: Third postdoc.
